Disabilities and Differences in the Yoga Classroom: An Online Teacher Training

Yoga is for ALL bodies, minds and spirits. This teacher training is for those who want more info, tools and personal competency when it comes to teaching accessible, inclusive yoga to a variety of disabilities and differences in the classroom. This training is also helpful if you work with these populations in other spaces (like academic classrooms) and want to have tools of yoga, breathwork and mindfulness to weave into those offerings.

We’ll cover asana (poses), pranayama (breathwork), meditation, mindfulness and creativity exercises for kids and teens and will go over lots of accommodations, methods and ways of sharing to make sure you’re the best teacher you can be. You’ll be writing even more lesson plans with this one, practice teaching and rounding out your ability to serve ALL who enter your classroom. Co-taught by Sarah Henderson and Sarah Herrington *yes super similar names :) —- 25-hour CEUs or Module 3 on the 95 hour path! See you there….

FAQs

Do I need to take an adult yoga teacher training before I take a kids or teen one?

Nope! Our kids and teen yoga teacher trainings are open to ALL—- you simply have to have your own relationship to yoga (we recommend a steady practice of at least a year). The only caveat is: IF you want to become an RCYT (Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance—-which means completing all modules and registering with them) YOU DO have to have a 200 hour adult teacher training under your belt. Not everyone needs or wants Yoga Alliance alignment….we are happy to chat and guide you as best we can with this. If you simply want to take a TT and learn the ropes and graduate OM Schooled, no 200 hour is needed.

I might have to miss some hours of the training. Is this ok?

In order to receive your certificate of completion from OM Schooled (AND/OR your Yoga Alliance hours) you have to complete all hours. So clear your calendar! If you know you have something unavoidable that might interfere, reach out to OM Schooled and let them know—-we can try to make a plan to make up those hours. But if you miss hours without making them up, sadly you can’t get the certificate of completion.

How often do you run teacher trainings?

We offer kids and teen trainings 1-2 a year, and the special populations training once a year. Mentorships are ongoing. If you’re affiliated with a studio or school, we’d love to host a training with you on your schedule! Just reach out. and watch this space and insta (@omschooled) for scheduling updates!

What if I don’t want to teach full kids yoga classes, just bring mini-yoga-breaks into my school or community?

All the tools you learn at OM Schooled can be shared in mini-yoga breaks! You will learn not only how to host full yoga classes, but how to offer these tools to other adult teachers who work with youth, how to go into classrooms, libraries, hospitals and other spaces with kids to share breathwork and social-emotional learning and soothing through yoga.

How do online trainings work?

We run our training through Zoom, so we meet at the same time and can be in a virtual community together. You will have some OMwork (usually reading, and some written work) and there will be optional, available “office hours” with Sarah via phone or Zoom.

Who is OM Schooled for?

OM Schooled is for anyone who loves yoga and wants to know how to share it with the future through kids and teens. We often get adult yoga teachers, classroom educators, therapists, parents, and others who work with children in our trainings. We also get artists and yogis who are looking for a way to make a difference in their community. Anyone is welcome

I’m unsure about my schedule. What’s your cancellation policy?

When OM Schooled is being hosted by a studio, we defer to the studio for their cancellation policies. When OM Schooled is being offered directly, there are no refunds, so be sure to ask all your questions up front and double-check your schedule! If you do have to cancel we can hold your registration for a future training, up to two years.

The not-so fine print.

*OM Schooled is a yoga training program, and we will practice yoga poses and other physical practices (kid-style). OM Schooled is not responsible for any injury during the course. Any poses and physical practices are your responsibility...as always, know your body and check in with your doc if you're not sure! (p.s. no one has gotten hurt….fingers crossed….but just in case)
